Outrep vs Strong
Strong set the standard for the plate calculator and the watch. Outrep ships both and adds the engine.
Comparison as of September 2026, written from public listings and reviews. Prices are as commonly reported; verify in the stores before you decide. Strong is another company’s product and is not affiliated with Outrep.
| Feature | Outrep | Strong |
|---|---|---|
| Plate calculator and warm-ups | On the set row with one tap; your own plate inventory; generated warm-up ramp (bar × 10, 50 % × 5, 70 % × 3, 85 % × 1). | The feature Strong is known for. Plate calculator and warm-up calculator, dead simple. |
| Progression guidance | Engine on every exercise: add weight, add a rep, hold, or deload, with a “Why?”. Free on one exercise per workout; Pro on all. | None built in. |
| Watch | Wear OS standalone with rest haptics screen-off, mirrors within a second; Apple Watch on the same engine with the iOS beta. | Superb Apple Watch app with a long track record. Android and Wear lag iOS in reviews. |
| Free tier | Unlimited history, exercises, export, plate calculator, watch, import; 6 routines of your own; 3 programs. | Free tier capped at 3 routines. |
| Updates | Beta in 2026; the roadmap is public in the repository’s plan. | Perceived stagnation in reviews: few updates, Android behind iOS. |
| Sync and accounts | Optional account; offline first; conflicts resolve deterministically (last write wins on the row, deletions win ties). | Sync and account issues are a recurring review theme. |
| Import / export | Imports Strong CSV (both the comma and the older semicolon layout); exports CSV or JSON. Free. | CSV export; no import. |
| Price | Free; Pro $3.99/mo, $29.99/yr with a 7-day trial, $79.99 lifetime. | Free (limited); Pro about $4.99/mo, about $29.99/yr, lifetime about $99.99. |
Where Strong is the better choice
- You are on iPhone and Apple Watch today and want a shipping, mature app; Outrep’s Apple apps are in beta.
- You want the simplest possible logger and nothing more.
- You bought a lifetime licence years ago and it still does the job.
Where Outrep is
- You have a program and want each set’s target computed from what you actually did last time, including the deload.
- You log from Wear OS.
- You want more than three routines without paying, and a lifetime option that costs $79.99 rather than about $99.99.
How to import from Strong
- In Strong: export your data as a CSV from the app’s settings (the file starts with
Date,Workout Name,…orDate;Workout Name;…). - Open the CSV with Outrep, or Settings → Import from Hevy / Strong and pick the file.
- Done. Strong’s comma layout has no unit column, so the weights are taken in your profile unit; the older semicolon layout carries its own unit per row. “Rest Timer” and “Note” rows are skipped; W, D and F set orders become warm-up, drop and failure sets.
